![]() ![]() though complaints and wishes for change are valid, the business practice of purchasing your card collection through Blizzard continues. And people still continue to purchase cards, card packs, and etc., as well as cosmetics. Players have loved this idea, and it's caused players to want to support developers through the purchase of cosmetics instead.īut here's the reality: Hearthstone remains, and continues to be, the digital card game (and now suite of strategy games) with the largest player base. ![]() And this was true! I've purchased MtG decks for roughly the same cost if not more than an entire expansion of HS cards.īut since the inception of HS, other developers such as Riot (LoR) and now Konami (Master Duels) have asked the question, "Should card collections be the main expense for consumers, or should our cosmetics be?" For Riot and Konami, it's cosmetics (though cards are still optionally purchasable). As a fellow HS player in our community once said, "Hearthstone video game, but a cheap card game" when it released in 2014. Historically speaking, Hearthstone was ahead of its time. Yugioh is very ruthless to bad players and its also pretty hard to get into as a newcomer with long card texts, and worse when they come with weird expectations like thinking that tribute summoning blue eyes white dragon is the only allowed way to play and everything else is broken op. Its like playing a control deck without removals because you expect your opponent to not play the first turns, then complaining that your greedy no-removsl control deck loses to aggro and that therefore the game is a coinflip in the matchup because you can instalose if matched against a fast deck. The problem is, many people come to yugioh knowing only the anime or playing it back in 2005, so they dont have any kind of handtrap, disruption or similar in their decks and therefore lose easily without any chance to even resolve a single card. Yep, in yugioh turn 2/3 games is common, but both players have interacted with each other and done more plays than in a control mirror in hearthstone. If you swap to Master Duels, there is a high chance you will be disappointed in a couple months and you will find yourself unable to catch up/afford both Hearthstone and Yu-Gi-Oh! If you need to look for cheaper alternatives to Hearthstone, consider Gwent, Runeterra, etc. I would not trust a major corporation like Konami to butcher their cash cow (Duel Links) and then give me a free ride on my life. This is not a statement of whether Hearthstone is cheap or expensive, just to inform readers that quitting Hearthstone for Master Duels is incredibly DUMB. Duel Links was cheap in the beginning as well. But we don't know what will happen in the future. Probably to siphon/transition players from Duel Links. RIGHT NOW, Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duels is super cheap. This is NOT Duel Links, their highly successful primary Yu-Gi-Oh title that makes more money than Hearthstone and has a widely criticized monetary model. ![]() ![]() For Hearthstone players unaware, Konami put out a new game called Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duels.
